A.W. Lymn The Craftsmen in Stone, part of A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, has expanded its stonemasonry services by appointing Ryan Marsh as General Manager. Ryan’s hiring allows the business to continue serving families within its communities across the East Midlands with the detailed and thoughtful level of care it has built throughout its storied 118-year history.

With over a decade of experience in engineering and quality assurance, Ryan brings a strong foundation in compliance, international standards, and team leadership. He started his career in mechanical and electrical engineering before joining a global marine engineering firm.

There, he climbed the ranks from Technical Assistant to Group Warranty Manager, overseeing operations across six international offices and managing 29 global agents. His experience with quality systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 positions him well to lead improvements within A.W. Lymn’s memorial services.

ISO 9001 is an internationally recognised standard for quality management systems, designed to help organisations ensure they meet customer and regulatory requirements consistently. ISO 27001 is a globally recognised standard for information security management systems, aimed at helping organisations protect their data and manage risks related to information security.

Following the pandemic, Ryan sought a future-resilient sector, free from artificial intelligence’s potential dominance in the sector and contacted A.W. Lymn directly. Ryan sent along a copy of his CV and outlined how his skills could contribute to the company’s heritage and growth. His initiative caught the attention of Managing Director Matthew Lymn Rose, who admired Ryan’s skills and drive.

“Ryan’s initiative and experience made an immediate impression,” said Matthew. “He recognised how his skills could support the growth of our business, and we felt he’d be a perfect fit for our stonemasonry operations. Ryan is aware of the high standards our families expect and is keen to maintain those.”

With a focus on streamlining workflows, optimising the company’s software, and supporting professional growth among the team, Ryan is blending his background in ISO standards and compliance with a hands-on, people-first approach.

“Helping to install my first memorial was both humbling and fulfilling,” Ryan shared. “It reinforced the emotional impact of what we do. My goal is to maintain the best practices that have been here for many years and introduce some new processes that elevate our service and give our team the tools and confidence to deliver excellence every time.”

Ryan’s leadership will support a culture of continuous improvement, cross-training, and professional development, helping A.W. Lymn’s stonemasonry team to adapt and thrive in an evolving industry.

His appointment signals a forward-looking approach to memorial craftsmanship that blends tradition with innovation to deliver exceptional stonemasonry services to families across the region.

With 25 funeral homes across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and most recently Leicestershire, A.W. Lymn, the fifth-generation family funeral directors, prides itself on offering a variety of services available at an affordable price to the families it has served since 1907.
