Pictured on the right is Chris Allwood, who has taken over from Alan Smith as Managing Director of Welsh//Slate, based at Penrhyn Quarry, Gwyned. Alan has moved to Bretts to be nearer his home. Chris, once with Aggregate Industries, has more than 30 years experience in construction internationally.
At 53, he has worldwide experience in business from North America to the Far East, Middle East and across Europe.
He has previously occupied senior positions at Kingspan Access Floors and Arcelor Construction UK – part of world-leading steel provider ArcelorMittal – as well as Aggregate Industries and other companies.
Chris describes joining Welsh//Slate as a fantastic opportunity and one of the most exciting challenges of his career.
He says: “Our roofing and aggregates products are extremely well established. My focus will be to make these elements of the business even more successful, while developing our architectural offering, including flooring, paving, walling and cladding products.
“It is also our intention to build on the early success of Slateware – a collection of slate plates, bowls, placemats, platters and other tableware designed by two-star Michelin chef Michael Caines.
“The Slateware range is a fantastic example of applying ingenuity in order to extend the business beyond the traditional. This is an approach that will be encouraged as we look to develop the brand and business.”
