The family run stonemasonry business of Traditional Stone & Slate Supplies of Horbury Bridge, West Yorkshire, have hosted their inaugural golf day for their customers and suppliers. And a wonderful time they had.
To make the day a little more unusual for their guests they gave their masons free range to make the trophies for the winners from Stoke Hall sandstone from Stancliffe. Their work is pictured on the right, as are they. They are (from left to right): Mark Moorhouse, Andy Byrnes, Kryss Tominay and Paul Davidson. The trophies they produced were:
- Andy Byrnes – Nearest the pin
- Paul Davidson – 1st place & Boobie prize
- Mark Moorhouse – Shield & 2nd place
- Kryss Tominay – Longest drive
Traditional Stone Supplies was started some 20 years ago as a traditional building company. Today they are one of the largest independent stone yards in the north of England, based on a 5acre site just outside Wakefield and employing 40 people. They supply reclaimed and new walling, reclaimed and new roofing, Indian and reclaimed sandstone paving, dry stone walling and new, bespoke masonry from their saws and banker masons.
They decided earlier this year to host a golf day, to thank their suppliers, service providers and customers that had helped them through a difficult year. Numbers were kept reasonably low to keep it fairly intimate. The intention was to have four groups of four with a member of staff in each group.
Waterton Park Golf Club in Wakefield was the venue. They wanted something special as prizes and an open discussion with their masons produced ideas for each trophy each. “We were all thrilled with the quality of the trophies,” says Philip Sawyer, Sales Office & Production Manager, “as were all the people on the golf day itself. Positive comments on their uniqueness and quality echoed around the bar in the evening and the day was a complete success in every way. Can’t wait for next year.”
The winners were:
- Shield Winner (to keep for a year) Matthew Bloxsome
- Nr 1 Winner Matthew Bloxsome
- Nr 2 Runner up Mark Woffendin
- Driver Longest drive Dudley Parker
- Wedge Nearest the pin Julian Peel
- Torso Boobie prize Richard Alderson
