Dunhouse Quarry in Co Durham has a new Palfinger truck-mounted forklift (TMF) for delivering its natural stone and traditional masonry. Dunhouse operates nine quarries in the North of England and Scotland and has supplied material for such prestigious projects as column segments for Covent Garden and intricate carvings for The Scottish National Portrait Gallery.
Dunhouse bought its first Palfinger TMF in 2008, when MD Paul Allison decided to address health & safety issues. With truck mounted cranes, someone has to climb on to the back of the lorry, which has risks associated with it. A curtain sider with a TMF eradicates the risk.
This time Paul has chosen the F3 253 PX model of forklift with 3-wheel drive and a static mast. Paul: “Apart from instances when a customer specifically asks for a crane – when a load has to be lifted over a high wall for example – the Palfingers are the backbones of our operations to get our stone exactly where and when it is needed, whether that’s on a Scottish island or in the centre of London.”
