Burlington take over the world at Diageo

A focal point within the main Scottish office of drinks company Diageo - formerly Guinness UDV - is a circular map of the world that has been created using Burlington\'s Broughton Moor natural stone.

Inlaid into the floor of the reception of the three storey \'L\' shaped building on Edinburgh Business Park, the world map was designed by architects and interior designers BDG McColl of Edinburgh to promote Diageo\'s presence in more than 180 markets worldwide.

Contained within a perimeter banding of stainless steel, the map, illuminated from underneath, features bands of the Broughton Moor mid green stone that have been gritblasted to recreate an outline of the world. Installation was carried out by Watson Stonecraft for main contractors Miller Construction.

Also in the reception area of the three-storey building is a feature wall of Burlington Ulverston limestone.

Part finished in complementary armour coat polished plaster and part recessed, the Ulverston limestone wall houses a display of Diageo brands of beers, wines, spirits and liqueurs. An integral plasma screen has also been incorporated.

To continue the theme used for the feature wall, the same material has been specified as flooring to other areas of the ground and first floors.

Commenting on the specification of Burlington\'s natural stone, BDG McColl partner Ian Stewart said: "The overall interior design theme serves to underpin Diageo\'s presence on a global scale while also promoting the brand collection that the company is famous for.

"The materials that we specified for this particular project, including many of a traditional nature such as Burlington\'s Broughton Moor stone and Ulverston limestone, serve to echo and support Diageo\'s brands.""
