Stone apprenticeships at Birmingham Town Hall
Two local people in Birmingham are being given an opportunity to learn stonemasonry while working on the renovation of one of the city\'s most prestigious landmark buildings, Birmingham Town Hall.
The contractors, Croydon-based stone and conservation specialists Stonewest, are offering two modern day apprenticeships for local people during the project. Open to anyone who is 16 or older, the apprenticeships comprise two years of Construction Industry Training Board sponsored study on a block release basis, with the college courses at Bath.
As well as creating the opportunity to be an active part of one of the city\'s biggest conservation programmes, the apprenticeships also provide a recognised NVQ qualification at the end of them.
Paul Woods, project manager for Stonewest, says: "We\'re keen to attract applications from men and women from every age range and ethnicity. With no previous experience necessary, the most impressive candidates will demonstrate enthusiasm, dedication and an interest in architecture and conservation."
