Nelson Public Realm
Hardscape started working with Pendle Borough Council on this project in early 2008 with the aim to completely regenerate Nelson town centre over two phases of work.
Phase One focused on the Market Square. Naylor Hill Yorkstone paving along with Woodkirk Yorkstone setts were supplied by Hardscape along with granite edgings and kerbs to create a linear open space for pedestrians and for the busy outdoor market area. A modern day war memorial was also designed and built within this phase.
Phase One consisted of 3,000m2 of paving. It was completed in 2009. Further to the success of Phase One, design work for the 2nd phase took serious consideration to the central area of the town. An elliptical basalt amphitheatre was designed by Pendle Borough Council then drawn and manufactured by Hardscape.
In addition to the amphitheatre there were 4,000m2 of Yorkstone paving and granite kerbs/setts used. This phase was completed in August 2011 and is looking to pick up RIBA and Landscape Institute awards in 2012.
