House of Mosaics designed and installed a 120,000 piece hand-cut floor mosaic at the Royal Academy of Music in London during the eight-week summer recess last year.
The foyer of the world famous Academy, founded in 1822, has been totally refurbished and House of Mosaics were approached to replicate a previous floor mosaic in marble across a 170m2 area.
The project involved design, specification, liaison with other contractors and installation of the new marble mosaic comprising around 120,000 individual pieces laid in peacock fans within bordered areas. But it had to be completed by the time the 700 students, 300 professors and 100 Academy staff returned after the summer break.
Pete Smith, Estates Manager for The Royal Academy of Music says: “Everyone here is delighted with the new lobby, and in particular the mosaic floor. House of Mosaics provided an outstanding service in design, specification and delivery. They hit the deadlines and enabled us to open the doors this term to a chorus of approval.”
It's the kind of challenge that The House of Mosaics Managing Director Simon Powell says he relishes. “We are a major supplier to the commercial sector and recognise that deadlines and constraints are inherent in any commercial project we undertake.
“This was a challenging project, but we had no doubt we could create and install this stunning mosaic to the deadline.”
