And why shouldn’t stone be put on a pedestal?
Stone does not usually get put on pedestals in art galleries accompanied by photographs of quarries and processing plant, but it happened during Clerkenwell Design Week at the Frameless Gallery in Clerkenwell Green, London EC1 – and it attracted crowds.
Clerkenwell Design Week is a sister event to the 100% Design exhibition – and 100% Design, by the way, is moving to Olympia, 23-26 September this year.
Clerkenwell Design Week takes branded products (300 of them this year) that companies want to show to designers into the heart of international designer land – and the designers seem to appreciate it.
Gareth Davies of GDStones, of Marden, Kent, was behind the exhibition of 100kg blocks of natural stone in a variety of finishes on plinths at Frameless.
Another stone company exhibiting at Clerkenwell Design Week was London specialist Diespeker, which makes terrazzo as well as selling stone. MD John Krause was also delighted with the interest his exhibit during the event had generated.
Next year’s Clerkenwell Design Week is the seventh and takes place 24-26 May.
