Autumn conservation course at Faenol
A three-day stone conservation course is being held at Y Faenol Conservation Centre at the Vaynol Estate near Bangor, Wales, in October.
The course is entitled \'An introduction to understanding and working with stone in historic structures\'. It is a mixture of lectures, demonstrations and site visits lasting three days, although days may be booked individually.
The course begins on 4 October with an introduction to stone, how it is quarried and how to identify different types, followed by an afternoon tour of the various stone buildings on the Vaynol estate.
On the second day those on the course will be able to experience carving stone themselves after an introduction about choosing stone for architectural sculpture use. There will be site visits in the afternoon.
The course will conclude with a day discussing what makes stone decay and how to remedy that decay.
The price for the three days is £370. Price for both the first and last day only is £250, or for just one day, £125 (all prices exclude VAT). Accommodation is not included. Those taking part on the course will have to make their own arrangements for staying overnight, but there is a Travel Inn close by.
