Book review: Stone in Scotland

ISBN 978-92-3-104031-3. Written by Ewan Hyslop, Andrew McMillan, Ingval Maxwell. Published by Unesco and IAEG. Price Euro16.

It is difficult to read this publication without being reminded of a Woody Allen skit in which he says Ernest Hemingway went to America and wrote Oliver Twist and they all wondered why because Charles Dickens had already written it. This 72-page addition to UNESCO\'s Earth Sciences series is fine, but it would seem to have been adequately covered already, and in more detail, by publications from Historic Scotland, the Scottish Stone Liaison Group and lately the Stone Institute.
