Chris Daniels becomes HND course tutor at Weymouth
Chris Daniels, who gained his own City & Guilds stonemasonry qualifications at Weymouth College, has returned more than 20 years later to take up the post of course tutor for HND applied architectural stone.
For the past 18 years Chris Daniels has worked on historic buildings and will be applying that skill to the content of the course to produce stonemasons fully conversant in the traditional working of stone as well as modern techniques.
After gaining his City & Guilds, Chris Daniels went on to study conservation in Italy, returning to the UK to work for conservation specialists St Blaise in Dorchester. He became senior conservator at Rattee & Kett before moving on to Herbert Read, managing major projects such as Crocket St Thomas, Holme Lacy, Thoresby Park and Chittlehampton Church.
Lately working internationally as a consultant from his home in Devon, he spent some of last year involved in the restoration of the Manitoba Legislative Building in Winnipeg, Canada.
Before his current appointment he was a visiting lecturer at Plymouth School of Architecture as well as at Weymouth College. He also demonstrated masonry skills and gave presentations at seminars and training days for various organisations.
