Christchurch Spitalfields wins RIBA prize

The final phase of Red Mason\'s 25-year labour of love restoring the Hawksmoor masterpiece of Christ Church Spitalfields, London, has gained a RIBA Conservation Award presented in June. The work carried out by Red, latterly with architects Purcell Miller Tritton, was featured in NSS January 2005. It involved the repair and restoration of the Portland limestone pillars and pilasters and stairs to the crypt. It also involved a spectacular new, 700m2 Purbeck limestone floor. The stonework was carried out by Stone Restoration Services of Ongar, Essex.
