Country landowners go underground
Members of the national minerals working party of the Country Landowners Association (CLA) paid a visit to Hanson Bath & Portland\'s Westwood Bath stone mine as part of their annual conference.
Earlier in the day they had visited Hanson\'s Whatley superquarry near Frome, where 3.5million tonnes of limestone aggregate are extracted each year - quite a contrast to the 4,500 tonnes of Bath stone removed from the Westwood mine each year.
Members of the Country Landowners Association are pictured here with mine manager Peter Crompton (centre) while they were underground.
