Stone company Carrara Marble in North London has been supplying marble and granite for nearly 20 years. Last year, after extensive research of the options, it bought its first GMM Egil saw from Roccia Machinery – and liked it so much it has bought another one of exactly the same spec.
The Egil has significantly improved productivity at Carrara Marble and a camera mounted on the head allows the operator to mark defects on the slab so that, by using the drag and drop touch screen, waste is minimised. The automatic head tilt option is particularly useful for producing mitred edges. The saw can cut complete shapes from imported CAD drawings, which means that, with the vacuum lift system, the operator can load a complete slab and leave the machine to get on with the work.
Gregory Zamojski of Carrara says: “The accuracy of the cut plus the user friendliness of the machine have greatly assisted our production and reduced wastage.”
And Carrara are not the only company to have appreciated the benefits of CNC sawing. Darren Bill, sales manager for Roccia Machinery, says: “We are seeing a very high demand for CNC saws across the spectrum, from the smaller CNC Brio up to the larger machines such as the Litox.”
