Stone treatment and protection company Fila has launched a new treatment to protect calcium carbonate-based stones (marble, limestone and travertine) from attack by acid.
It does not totally eliminate the threat of acid attack, but it buys time by giving up to 24 hours protection.
It is called Filamarble Aid, an odourless, solvent-free treatment that blocks the damaging effects of acids, in particular, although it works just as well as a block to other chemicals that might stain.
It creates a polished barrier that will not yellow or otherwise discolour while retaining a natural look – ie it does not create an ‘acrylic’ looking surface finish.
Filamarble Aid has a safe, water-based formulation, with a low volatile organic compound (VOC) content. It can be applied to new and existing surfaces.
It is not UV-cured nor removed by grinding. It is applied to a clean, dry surface in two coats with a short-hair applicator supplied with the product.
If it needs removing for any reason, it is easy to do using Filanopaint Star. It can then be reapplied if desired.
The new treatment is ideal for all bathroom and kitchen surfaces and is certified safe for food preparation areas.
As well as being easy to apply after the stone has been installed, it can also be applied ‘in-line’ as a factory finish applied before fitting.
Filamarble Aid is a two-component treatment giving approximately 9.2m2 of coverage per 233ml package. Specialist advice on application is available from Fila’s partner, Superior Stone.
