Kolb are back

The German-made Kolb stone-working machines are back and continue to be represented in the UK by Combined Masonry Supplies.

Just before Christmas Martin Kolb Maschinenbau went into administration. Now Richard Chandler of Combined Masonry Supplies is pleased to announce that Martin Kolb, Thomas Spitz and Juergen Niedewieser have found a backer to enable them to continue in the stone machinery building industry as a new company launched on 21 January.

“My first, short term concern is to be able to supply spares and support for the existing Kolb machines in the UK, so it’s a relief that the core members of the old Kolb company are still together and have quickly set up a new company to provide this support,” Richard told NSS.

“Now they are working with Loeffler, who in turn are owned by a large industrial group. That means, in the medium term, Kolb’s costs will be reduced due to their access to more efficient production systems.

“It also means they have greater wherewithal to develop new products using, of course, all their experience and history of making some of the best engineered machines in the industry. I expect M Kolb Steinbearbeitungsmaschinen GmbH, as the new company is called, will soon regain the Kolb position as one of the most popular stone processing machines in the UK – even if the new name is a bit of a mouthful!”

Thomas Spitz, the Export Manager of the old Kolb company and Managing Director of the new one founded the new company with Martin Kolb (the former Managing Director) and Jürgen Niederwieser, responsible for spare parts, service and purchasing.

The new company’s product range comprises:

  • Compact saws
  • Bridge saws
  • CNC – Rotating head bridge saws (eg MKD Tetra, 4 Axis Monobloc CNC rotating head saw )
  • Block saws with saw blade up to 2.5m DIA
  • Cross cut saws
  • Edge polishing machines

Thomas Spitz says that with the help of the strategic partnership with Löffler Engineering + Service GmbH in Langenaltheim, Germany, the product range will grow. Löffler’s spectrum encompasses

  • CNC-processing centres
  • CNC- bridge saws with vacuum-suction systems
  • CNC-rope saws
  • Block saws with saw blade up to 3.5m DIA
  • Edge processing up to 200 mm / surface grinders
  • Waterjet cutters
  • Splitting machines

The website is currently under construction, but when it is finished you should be able to find the company at the web address below.
