Machinery : Enzo 400SN / 500S

Motogen are Italian manufacturers of saws ranging from small tile saws to large bridge saws. They have many standard models readily available – such as the Enzo 400SN / 500S featured here that was designed specifically for the UK market – but are happy to quote for any bespoke requirements, notably regarding size so that you can have a machine to fit your workshop.

Main features of the Enzo 400SN / 500S

General. UK machinery, tools and consumables suppliers Harbro asked Motogen to build them a saw that would be attractive to UK masons on specification, performance, build quality and price. The result was the Enzo 400SN monolithic saw that is also available in a CNC configuration that can carry larger blades as the Enzo 500S. Although the target market was primarily worktop manufactures, the saw has also attracted a lot of interest from the memorial trade.

Capabilities. As the Enzo 400SN, it is a simple and economic saw with a good length of cut for marble and granite workshops. As the 500S it is a more sophisticated CNC machine with maximum precision and reliability for cutting marble, granite and stone.

Physical configuration. In its standard configuration the dimensions of the saw are 5m x 2.5m x 2.45m. The maximum work area is 3.3m in the X axis, 1.8m in the Y axis and 300mm in the Z axis. X,Y and Z axes are controlled by PLC on the 400SN. There is head rotation on the X axis of 0-45° and head rotation on the Z axis of 0-90°. There is the option of a fourth axes on the 500S.

Construction: The saw is of solid construction with the head set and bridge supports manufactured in cast iron for rigidity in order to reduce vibration and achieve accurate cuts. The monolithic structure is machined before assembly for precision.

Work head. The head movement is obtained by direct screw. Power transmission is by a re-circulating ball screw system with a central motor position to obtain the maximum movement precision. The adjustable bridge slides on to linear guides that assure high degrees of cutting precision for straight or 45° cuts. The vertical head movement is achieved on a precision-ground shaft. The drive components can be protected by folding washable PVC.

Motor. There are several options available. The 400SN is supplied with a 5kW, 3,000rpm motor as standard for use with a 500mm blade, but an option of 5.5kW, 1,400rpm with a 500mm blade is available. There is also an option of having inverter motors for smoother operation and more economic electricity consumption. The 500S has an 8kW, 1,400rpm inverter motor as standard for use with a 500mm or 650mm blade.

Work table. Marine ply surface with pneumatic lifting rollers. Roller tables 1500mm x 330mm or 190mm.

Control. There is an adjustable control panel for the PLC operation on the 400SN and a touch screen adjustable control panel for the 500S with CAD/CAM software. It is programmable for multi-step cuts along the X and Y axes.

Price. Starting prices for the basic machines are £25,000 for the 400SN and £39,000 for the 500S.
