Machinery: Omag

Since D Zambelis took on the UK agency for Italian CNC manufacturer Omag, a Lasimark laser engraver has been sold to A D Calvert and an Area5 bridge saw has just been installed at Wolff Stone. Here we take a closer look at the heavyweight of the stone processing range, the five axes Blade5 workcentre.

The Omag Blade5 CNC Workcentre sold by UK machinery supplier D Zambelis is a heavyweight among CNC processing machinery. The machine’s interpolated five-axes technology is ideal for processing any stone from marble and granite to sedimentary limestones and sandstones.

Its five axes give it versatility, enabling it to turn its head to sculpture and architectural stonework such as classical capitals and mouldings as well as being able to tackle flat applications for worktops and headstones. And with a ‘Z’ axis that can be up to 3m, and ‘X’ and ‘Y’ axes up to 5m, there really is not much that the Blade5 cannot tackle, especially when it is equipped with the optional lathe.

Such impressive processing power opens all kinds of opportunities for the company that is committed to taking a major technological step towards precision and reliability with a machine that is efficient and dependable.

Powerful brushless motors and ball bearing screws speed the head through the work. The slides are on linear guide rails and ball bearing blocks with moving parts protected by PVC bellows and a centralised oil lubricating system.

The Blade5 can take a diamond blade up to a maximum 1600mm diameter, which can be tilted up to 140° and rotated up to 380°. The working table is fixed because the blade positions itself automatically according to the profiles and cuts to be carried out.

The software development for CAD/CAM and the machine’s operation are made directly by Omag, which is a significant comfort factor for customers buying a machine with such impressive credentials.
