Book now for Streetwise Subbie's ‘Breakthrough Construction 2014’ conference in June

StreetwiseSubbie.com is well known for championing the cause of specialist contractors and it is at it again with the announcement of its second annual conference on 10 June at The Belfry, Nottingham.

As ever, it is exclusively for specialist contractors. Last year's event proved so popular it had to be moved to a larger venue to accommodate everyone and this year's looks like being another sell-out.

“We are already at about 28% of our last year’s total and we have only just opened up the priority reservations,” says Barry Ashmore, StreetwiseSubbie’s Managing Director.

Last year, the conference and rally, titled ‘Specialist Contracting In Britain Is Broken – What Can We Do To Fix It?’, drew delegates from all over the UK. It saw the launch of Streetwise Subbie’s 'Fair Treatment Charter', designed to be a simple and easy to implement solution to the payment and unfair treatment issues faced every day by specialist contractors.

This year ‘Breakthrough Construction 2014’ aims to tackle the lasting damage left behind after a traumatic five years of recession, which saw the more unscrupulous of the main contractors causing the downfall of more than 5,500 UK specialist contractors. The main theme of this year's conference will be about enabling specialists to achieve some significant breakthroughs in their businesses and as an industry.

Barry, who will be speaking at the conference, says: “The benefits of the growth that is being reported in the media are not reaching many of the specialist contractors, despite their role in making growth happen!

"The more unscrupulous main contractors won’t change any of their subby-bashing ways and we want to ensure that all specialist contractors are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to grow their businesses.”

Barry has long since been championing the fight against the culture of ‘subby bashing’, but he says that this culture has been engrained in the latest generation of main contractors and quantity surveyors.

“There is little sign of an end to the age old tricks that unscrupulous contractors use to boost their own profit margins in an industry culture that has allowed main contractors to prosper at the expense of their supply chains. We want to empower specialists to take control of the future of their own businesses.”

The conference will be held once again at the Belfry Hotel in Nottingham. If it is anything like last year's event it will be entertaining and enlightening.
