Stone and paving specialist Marshalls is hosting a major stone industry safety day at Pasture House Quarry, Huddesfield HX3 9TG, on 20 September.

It is being organised by the Dimension Stone Group of the Minerals Products Association in association with the Institute of Quarrying and the Health & Safety Executive.

There will be two large marquees and six smaller ones for the all-day event. Topics covered will include:

• work clothing
• Respirable crystalline silica, including respirator selection and maintenance
• Manual handling
• Working at height
• Vibration and the use of hand-held tools
• Mobile plant, including traffic management 

It is intended to make up teams from those attending for a health & safety quiz with prizes and it is hoped a demonstration of block sawing can be arranged using a Fantini saw.
