Carrara is planning to hold a special edition of its Marmotec international exhibition of marble, technology and design 18-21 June next year in the halls of CarraraFiere by linking with the Expo taking place in Milan from May to October 2015 (click here for more about the Milan Expo).
Expo Milan 2015 aims to be remembered not only for its products but also for its contribution towards education on food and the planet’s resources.
Tuscany, the Italian region which Carrara is in, has planned major participation in the Expo, including promoting its marble from the Apuan Alps of the Carrara district with its quarries, large companies, technology and processing expertise. It will also be promoting the region's history, culture and tradition.
The marble expertise of the region has been passed down through the generations. The district also stands out for study and research, as shown by the statistics on stone import-exports published by Internazionale Marmi e Macchine (IMM), the trade association of the region (for the latest report click here). The StoneLab by IMM is also an important addition. Opened in September, its goal is to assist companies in dealing with the challenges of a constantly evolving field through research.
Carrara is preparing for the its special event on marble in conjunction with the Milan Expo with a series of initiatives that include a mission to Yunfu undertaken by the municipality of Carrara and IMM and what they call a 'Marble Machinery and Technology Incoming' – a meeting between Turkey, also a leading marble producing country, and the Tuscan district.
