The special Carrara Marmotec 2015 due to take place next month (18-21 June) has been cancelled.
Carrara's Marmotec is held every other year and was not due to be staged this year, but a special edition had been planned as part of an extravaganza in Milan from May to October 2015 (click here for more about the Milan Expo).
Seminars planned in co-operation with the National Council of Architects will go ahead at the CarraraFiere Congress Center at the exhibition site. The 'Carrara Marble Weeks' programme in the town of Carrara will also go ahead, starting from 18 June with its sculptural installations in the squares, narrow streets, historical buildings and shops. But the stone exhibition itself will not take place.
The decision to cancel the show was made after discussions with the trade.
The Carrara exhibition President, Fabio Felici, said on announcing the show's cancellation: "I wish to thank both the companies that appreciated the new formula that we thought to apply on the occasion of this special edition and those who met us and discussed various issues with us, starting a new path that will take us to the 33rd edition of Carrara Marmotec in 2016 in its biennial schedule.
"We took this decision with regret, given the huge amount of work we have done. However, we do not want to create discomfort among the companies in our area, forcing them to difficult choices. Also, in consideration of the territorial issues that they are facing at present.
"I am sure that the work we have done in recent months has been very positive in view of the 2016 edition, allowing us to work at our best as to create an event next year that represents a real business opportunity for companies in the sector."
