There were 3,731 company insolvencies in England and Wales in the first quarter of 2002 on a seasonally adjusted basis. This was a decrease of 2.2% on the previous quarter, but an increase of 1.5% on the same period a year ago.

There were 6,922 individual insolvencies in England and Wales in the first quarter. This was a decrease of 5% on the previous quarter and a decrease of 7.3% on the same period a year ago.
