Friends of New Forest Airfields say \'thank you\'

Bernard Baily of the Friends of New Forest Airfields, Hampshire, has extended his thanks to NSS readers who responded to an appeal for help to raise a stone memorial to the people of the RAF who served at the airfields in the New Forest during World War Two.

In a letter he says: "My fellow trustees and I were astonished and delighted at the response of some of your readers. The bulk of the stone for the memorial was donated and delivered by Hanson Bath & Portland Stone, who also loaned us a saw to cut the stone ourselves.

"The granite setts and paving were donated and delivered by Ryanstone in Ireland. The 12 marble plaques were supplied free of charge by Ian Hennell of Stonecraft, Salisbury, and the erection carried out by Keystone Masonry, Salisbury, at a very competitive rate. The carving on the monument was crafted by Luke Luscombe, the previous owner of Keystone."May I thank you and through your publication your readers for the wonderful response to our request for assistance. We are most grateful.""
