Gordon Young menhir strikes the right chord at York

Singing Stone by Gordon Young. It is a 7.2m tall Cornish granite menhir commemorating 50 years of music at the University of York and the Chancellorship of singer Dame Janet Baker 1991-2004. Dame Janet unveiled it, revealing an inscription from her favourite poem, W B Yeats’ The Cloths of Heaven.

Cornish Landscaping Granite supplied the 20tonne natural Cornish granite boulder found on Bodmin Moor, Cornwall. Gordon Young visited Cornwall to inspect stones in order to make the final selection.
