Chinese granite importers Granite Design, with a main distribution depot in Felixstowe with distributors in Manchester and Scotland, have introduced a range of large format slabs, 3m long and between 1225mm and 1600mm wide.

And, after five years of dealing with China, Jim Hussey, who runs the company, says he has the experience to ensure that the granite is of the best quality with all the stone inspected before it leaves China. "Our business is based on quality control," he told NSS. "This granite really, really must be seen."

Prices vary with the material, but what he calls GD Black is £79/m2 at 30mm thick while Shanix Black is £85/m2. Shanix Black 305x305mm tiles at 10mm thick are £27.45/m2 and GD Black tiles £20.45/m2.
