Grotesque work from stoneCIRCLE
One of central London\'s great architectural buildings, Burlington House in Piccadilly, has been adorned with 30 replacement Portland limestone grotesques made by Hampshire stone specialists stoneCIRCLE using a combination of traditional masonry skills and the latest CNC workcentre. "The art and science of stonemasonry are changing and we at stoneCIRCLE are at the forefront," said Steve Vanhinsbergh, the company\'s technical director. The stone went on to an Omag CNC workcentre for the features of the faces to be cut in just two hours each. Then the almost completed figures were given to Steve\'s father and founder of the firm, Bernie Vanhinsbergh, and stoneCIRCLE\'s other masons to add the finishing touches. Bernie, pictured above with the CNC workcentre\'s contribution inset, says: "It\'s marvellous the way technology can do the toughest parts of the job in so little time. It means that people with traditional stonemasonry skills can concentrate on the fine detail. It relieves us of the hardest graft."
