Heritage industry loses two of its champions
The heritage sector has lost two of its leading players with the departure of John Fidler from English Heritage and Beverley Peters from CITB-ConstructionSkills and the National Heritage Training Group. John Fidler was the conservation director of English Heritage. He has gone to Los Angeles on a scholarship with the Getty, and will then be consulting internationally. A replacement is being sought for a new conservation director at English Heritage, but it is expected to be at least six months before anyone takes up the post. In the meantime, Bill Martin, who worked with John, is acting conservation director. Beverley Peters was appointed as the heritage construction manager by CITB-ConstructionSkills, a sector skills council for the heritage sector, working with the National Heritage Training Group. In a unique arrangement, she was funded by English Heritage. She has decided to have a career break following the birth of her baby.
