Lincoln to host second Fellowship seminar

Following the formal launch of the Cathedral Fellowship at Gloucester Cathedral in October (see NSS November issue), a second Fellowship training seminar is now planned to take place at Lincoln Cathedral from 30 July to 3 August.

The Cathedral Fellowship was formed by the nine cathedrals that still have their own stonemasonry workshops in order to pool their training resources for the benefit of their 14 apprentices. The Prince of Wales agreed to be the Fellowship\'s patron.

The principal aim of the Fellowship is to promote stonemasonry training in English Cathedrals and allow the apprentices to gain broader experience by working in the other cathedrals\' workshops alongside experienced stonemasons.

The week-long seminar starting at the end of July will cover major disciplines including working stone, setting out, lime mortars and carving. It will include lectures by Lincoln Cathedral\'s consultant archaeologist, architect and structural engineer.

Eleven first-to-fourth-year stonemasonry apprentices will be working in the Lincoln Cathedral Chapter House at various times during the week, where visitors will be welcome.

Overlapping the Cathedral Fellowship Seminar at the Cathedral is The Prince\'s Foundation Summer School.
