The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) has produced another in its series of technical pamphlets. This is number 16 and is called Care and Repair of Flint Walls.

It is just 16 pages of straight forward, well focussed information and no-frills black and white photographs and drawings.

Topics covered include the accurate diagnosis of defects, repair techniques and sample mortar mixes. There is a brief history of flint walling that provides a limited amount of information about the different ways flkint has been used. This section could usefully have been extended, but is perhaps outside the strict remit of these technical pamphlets.

At just £3 including post and packaging in the UK it would seem eccentric for anyone involved in conservation not to invest in the Care and Repair of Flint Walls.
