Lottery lifeline for skills shortages
The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has increased to £7million the funds it is making available for training bursaries to increase traditional building skills. The money includes £1million to be used by Historic Scotland towards a £2.28million \'masonry conservation in Scotland and Northern Ireland\' scheme to teach masonry conservation skills to 154 people. And £900,000 will go towards a \'traditional building skills for England and Wales\' training bursary run by English Heritage and the National Trust with 80 placements on offer. Plans to teach trainees to train others will help increase the legacy of the bursaries.
