Market Value
Cllr Keith Green, mayor of the Dorset Town of Wareham, has unveiled a statue to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the town\'s busy market. The \'Cottees Sculpture\', named after the auctioneers and valuers of antiques who commissioned the work, depicts the trading history of the market from its early days, when farmers came to sell produce, through to modern times, when it has become an antiques fair. The sculpture stands more than 3m high and is created out of a single block of Portland Bowers Basebed that was 2.5m long and 1.2m high and wide. The work stands on a base of the same stone. It took sculptor Johnathan Sells more than two years to complete the piece.
