Marshalls\' £1m contract paves the way for Liverpool 2008

Landscaping product company Marshalls Natural Stone in Southowram, West Yorkshire, are supplying nearly £1million worth of granite paving, setts and channelling for three main streets in the heart of Liverpool as part of the city\'s preparations for being the European Capital of Culture in 2008.

The three streets to be resurfaced - Church Street, Lord Street and Whitechapel - cover an area of more than 12,000m2. Marshalls are supplying what they call their \'Liverpool blend\' - Silver Grey, Mid Grey, Black and Green granites with a flamed finish - first used when they secured the contract to supply material for the regeneration of the Cavern Quarter (where the Beatles performed) in 2005. The current order gives this area of the city a pleasing continuity.

Marshalls and principal contractors Balfour Beatty Civil Engineer-ing Ltd combined their expertise to produce what they call a "focused and rounded tender" for the work. Work on Lord St has already started and the whole project should be finished by the middle of the year.

Marshalls Natural Stone have also secured another £1million worth of orders for major schemes throughout the UK for which they are supplying Yorkstone, granite paving and setts and specialist bespoke masonry items. The projects include Castle Gates in Shrewsbury; Oxford St, Swansea; Nottingham (including a granite water feature); Sunniside Gardens, Sunderland; Golden Square, Warrington; and Bridge-water Place, Leeds.
