Memorial Arts courses for 2003
Short courses delivered by some of Britain\'s best lettercarvers in their own workshops in Dorset, Cambridge, South Wales and London form this year\'s training programme from The Memorial Arts Charity.
Every course will include the drawing, design and layout of letters, as well as the practical skills of cutting and working with stone.
Courses available range from beginner/intermediate level (where commitment and enthusiasm are more important than experience) to advanced level for experienced lettercarvers who wish to fine-tune their techniques.
Classes are small, which enables tutors to give individual attention to participants and will mean that specific areas can be concentrated on according to need.
The programme involves:
Two, five-day courses in Rampisham, Dorset, taught by Andrew Whittle, 7-11 July (for beginners and intermediates) and 21-25 July (advanced level).
A 5-day course in Cambridge with Eric Marland and Tom Perkins, 1-5 August (for any ability). A further course will follow on 8-12 August if there is sufficient demand.
In Ammanford, South Wales, a 6-day course tutored by Ieuan Rees, 16-21 August (Advanced level).
In London, a 3-day course is planned for 31 October-2 November, but details have yet to be arranged.
Cost is £250 per place (excluding accommodation). A limited number of concessions may be available.
