Caroline Dear’s second memorial will stay at Chelsea Hospital

Caroline Dear's second World War I commemorative stone, marking the end of the war, will stay at Chelsea Barracks.

Stone carver Caroline Dear, who is a regular exhibitor at Chelsea Flower Show, was back again this year (22-26 May) with a second slate poppy memorial.

The first one she made commemorated the start of World War I and was installed on reclaimed land at Romney railway station in Hampshire near to her studio after she had exhibited it at Chelsea.

This second monolithic stone, to the same design, commemorates the end of the war and will remain at Chelsea Hospital, in the grounds of which the flower show is held annually by the Royal Horticultural Society.

Caroline was a civilian instructor in the armed forces, becoming a stone sculptor after she had retired.
