Specialist stonework and restoration contractors Cathedral Works Organisation Ltd (CWO) are celebrating scooping a prestigious Commendation in the RICS Awards for their conservation work at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, one of the masterpieces of late medieval architecture in Europe.
St George’s Chapel received the accolade in the Building Conservation category in the final of the RICS 2010 Awards last month (October), presented at Guildhall, London.
The Award honours conservation in all its forms with the judges paying particular attention to the materials and techniques used, conservation achievements, background research undertaken and the project’s long-term prospects.
Debbie Dance, Building Conservation Judge of the RICS Awards, said: “The research, choice of materials, design and craftsmanship underpinning this project are exemplary, reflecting the chapel’s standing as an official residence for HM the Queen.”
