Johnston Quarry Group has bought the UK’s first top-of-the-range Doosan DL580-5 wheel loader for its Creeton limestone quarry in Lincolnshire.
The 70-acre quarry has more than 6.5million tonnes of consented reserves that its new Doosan will help to turn into a significant asset of national importance.
The quarry produces three distinct beds of limestone: Creeton Banded, Creeton Hard White and Creeton Silverbed. They are all available in large quantities and block sizes suitable for a wide range of masonry projects.
The DL580-5 was supplied by Doosan dealer Filtermech Plant Sales Ltd in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The loader is equipped with a 6.2m3 quick hitch mounted bucket. It will significantly increase productivity at the quarry.
Steve Johnson, Quarry Manager at Creeton, said: “We have an existing Doosan DL550-3 wheel loader but I felt the new DL580-5 would provide us with a substantial boost to our output.”
It scoops up to 10tonnes of material in every bucket full, so can fill a customer’s lorry with just two loads and dump trucks with just three.
“We are producing on average about 4,000 tonnes of material a day, so over a full day this really adds up, ensuring we have increased productivity as well as increasing our speed of response, lowering fuel costs and reducing the cost per tonne of the materials we produce.”
