Eurovetro, a glass recycling company based in Origgio, Italy, has used full-height 3365mm x 1500mm slabs of 12mm thick Lapitec Nero Antracite in the Arena finish for its new state-of-the-art headquarters.
The monolithic design of the companiy's new headquarters is the work of architect Francesco Renoldi.
He wanted the architecture of the building to reveal a process, a discipline and a quality that is solid with an industrial assemblage paying attention to technical details. The 220m2 of Nero Antracite clad all of the external, vertical and horizontal surfaces using the maximum dimensional development of the slabs to minimise the number of cuts and joints.
The architect also uses glass and aluminium to 'empty' the ground floor and outline the exterior facades. Together, the Lapitec, glass and aluminium achieve a rigid and solid yet transparent architecture.
The Lapitec Nero Antracite becomes a unifying element between the different heights of the entrances, the alignments and the volumes of the building.
On the side, the tapered profile creates a sharp edge that voids the structural mass. The apparent absence of depth throughout its height enhances the bare slab, a strong 'thread' at just 12mm thick on which the entire metal facade seems to lean.
Lapitec is sold in the UK by national stone wholesaler The Marble & Granite Centre.
