Pictured right is a block Dovedale Fine Gritstone, also known as Derbyshire White Sandstone, which is the latest stone to be added to the collection offered by Nick Rymer of Historic Stone in Congleton, Cheshire. The quarry was formerly owned by John Greenwood & Sons and Nick says he has learnt from one of their retired former Master Masons, Albert Clarke, that the stone has a provenance of use as a monumental stone supplied throughout the UK and exported to Europe at the height of its popularity. Albert also says he was involved when the stone was used at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
