A new company called Triton Building Conservation, which will be working closely with the established Triton Building Restoration (TBR) company in London, was officially launched at a Champagne reception for more than 100 conservation architects, consultants and representatives of English Heritage and the National Trust in the palatial setting of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office at Lancaster House last month (November).
The new company has been established by Rob Butler, who used to work for TBR, and Marielle Engering, the daughter of Geoff Engering, the proprietor of TBR.
Triton Building Conservation Ltd was actually registered in March 2008 and started trading in March this year. Rob Butler can already boast an impressive list of projects, including work at the Grade I listed Lancaster House where he was involved in a £480,000 project that included stone cleaning, repair and repointing.
Triton Building Conservation are currently involved in projects including the remodelling of damaged statues at the London Palladium theatre with Carthy Conservation and work on the Grade II* listed University of East London, Stratford Campus, in partnership with Upsildon Consultancy.
Their completed projects include the Old Admiralty and Liberty’s Department Store in Regent Street.
Rob Butler told NSS that his new company will concentrate on specialist conservation and cleaning of architecturally significant buildings while TBR will be more involved in replacement and repair.
“I have tendered for 54 jobs this year. My target was to achieve a turnover of £750,000 but to date we have won £1.2million worth of work. We have had to take on more people in the office and on-site.”
The extra staff takes his head count up to six in the office with 30 banker masons, carvers, and carpenters on-site. He also has two students from the University of East London who the University asked Rob to allow to help with the work he has been contracted to carry out there.
