New Volvos for Crosland Hill expansion

Johnsons Wellfield has bought two new Volvo excavators for the primary extraction of Yorkstone blocks as it plans to extend its famous Crosland Hill Quarry.

The company, based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, has bought 75 tonne Volvo EC750E excavators, which join a 70-tonne EC700C purchased in the spring last year. James Berry, Johnsons’ Managing Director, says: “We’ve been very pleased with the performance of our EC700C in terms of its capability at the quarry face and its reliability. It hasn’t missed a beat in this very hard and demanding application of prising large dimensioned Yorkstone blocks directly from the face.”

Another factor in choosing Volvo’s latest flagship excavators was down to the EC750E’s ultra-low, external noise emission measuring just 108dB(A) in accordance with ISO 6395.

The two new machines are in ‘Mass Excavation’ configuration complete with hydraulic attachment brackets, heavy duty 4.4m3 Extreme rock buckets and heavy-duty ripper teeth for block production and handling overburden.

Johnsons Wellfield is part of the Myers Group, a family-run business within the building materials industry since 1929.  The Group employs around 350 people throughout its companies which include concrete manufacturer Readymix Huddersfield, Myers Building Supplies, Myers Timber and Myers Skip Hire.
