Jim Borland, who sold his Glasgow company Marlborough Marble & Stone to the management team earlier this year, has set up a new company in association with a partner in India to distribute granite, marble and other stone tiles and slabs throughout the UK.

Launched last month (August) as specialist distributors in natural stone products, Transconti-nental Tiles & Tops (styling themselves as T3) are looking for what they call \'granite partners\' across the UK. With more than 30 years experience in the marble and granite trade, Jim Borland believes he can select the best stones for tiling, cladding, counter tops, modular granite for flooring and borders, cladding, ashlar and split faced sandstone.

The materials come from Italy, Spain and India, and at any one time the company say they have 100 tonnes of tiles and scants in their Glasgow warehouse. T3 plan to build up a network of stockholders, or \'granite partners\', who they will supply with container loads of stone delivered directly to their yards in return for a structured payment plan. "Our mission," says Jim, "is to be one of the leading quality stone distributors in the UK by guaranteeing consistent quality, competitive pricing and timely delivery. We aim to make it easier for smaller, independent fabricators / granite manufacturers to import scants by removing many of their financial worries."
