New weekend courses in Halifax

Expert stone craftsman Jonathan Albutt, whose work includes restoration projects at Lincoln Cathedral, is to lead weekend masterclasses in stone carving at Calderdale College in Halifax, West Yorkshire.

The intensive two-day workshops over the weekends of 4/5 June and 12/13 November are aimed at beginners and working masons. They will teach the marking out and carving of letters in soft stone, carving a decorative relief panel, and sculpture skills. All materials are included in the cost of each session, which is costs £225 and includes overnight accommodation and an evening meal.

Classes are to take place in Calderdale College\'s new £3.3million Creative & Conservation Skills Centre, which was funded by Action Halifax and opened by the Duke of York last year.

"We expect the course to be extremely popular but will limit numbers to 10 at each session so there will be plenty of opportunity for one-to-one tuition," said Jonathan."
