No more crash decks with Promesh

Structural repair and specialist rope access company Proteq have launched a new product called Promesh as a means of containing masonry that might fall from buildings. It is, they say, a cost effective and convenient alternative to scaffolding crash decks.

Promesh can absorb high loads, so any falling masonry is retained within the mesh, which insurance companies will like.

The mesh was developed originally to contain failing toughened glass suffering from \'glass cancer\' or nickel sulphide inclusion problems that have appeared lately in modern curtain walling and roofing systems.

It became apparent that the product had other uses and could be used to tackle the age old problem of how to contain buildings that are in need of repair and maintenance. Traditionally, such buildings can require scaffolding to be in place for many years.

Promesh is ideal for the encasement of structures, retaining loose stonework and brick so it can be repaired instead of replaced.

Extensive research and testing have shown Promesh is able to withstand extremes of weather and is rot and mildew resistant. It is not waterproof, but \'breathes\', allowing the underlying surface to dry out, reducing frost and water damage and slowing the process of further damage to the building.

Promesh is fitted by Proteq\'s expert abseil technicians. They install it in panels secured by, for example, Hilti bolts, Hilti nails, Ramset and resin anchored fittings.

Buildings with complex or unusual shapes are no problem and once in place Promesh can stay there for at least five years. It is flexible enough to incorporate window and door apertures.

The mesh comes in a variety of colours and is partially translucent to preserve the aesthetic appeal of the building. Or the mesh can be screen printed or used as a back drop for advertisements.

Phil Bateman, managing director at Proteq, says: "Promesh will make a difference to high streets and buildings throughout the UK that suffer from ugly and obtrusive scaffolding structures providing crash deck protection that can be there for years.

"Promesh can do the same job, but offers savings in terms of cost and time to erect and is easier on the eye because of its ability to mould onto the structure to which it is attached."
