Obituary: Michael Reis, Editor of American magazine Stone World
Michael Reis, the Editor and Associate Publisher of the American stone industry magazine Stone World died on 7 February during a vacation in Jamaica. He was 43. A funeral service was held on 17 February at his home town of Ridgefield Park in New Jersey.
He joined the staff of Stone World magazine in March 1993, became editor in 1995 and associate publisher in 1997. He helped found the magazine’s fabrication-workshop series and served as moderator for many panels of fabricators and other stone-industry professionals throughout the United States and Canada.
At the time of his death, Michael was also Editorial Director for Tile Magazine, Associate Publisher and Editorial Director for Contemporary Stone & Tile Design, and Co-Editor of Building Stone Magazine.
Among the honors received by Michael for his work in the industry include the Premios Comarca del Marmol, XVII Edicion, in Spain in 2001, and the Mastro della Pietra (Stone Master) designation, a tradition from the Guild of Stone Art in Verona, Italy, in 2005.Michael is survived by his wife, Theresa, his parents and two brothers.
