Orton Trust honour first lecturer
A plaque has been unveiled at The Orton Trust\'s training centre in Northamptonshire to John Green, who ran the training trust\'s first course in 1969 and continued teaching there until 2004. John is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an Associate of the Royal College of Art, holder of the National Diploma in Design (Sculpture) and is a fully indentured stonemason who worked with the late Sir Jacob Epstein, an internationally acclaimed sculptor who studied with Rodin in Paris.
It was one of John\'s students, Rory Young, now a lecturer at The Orton Trust himself, who inscribed the Cumbrian green slate plaque to John. The donations of other students paid for it. The plaque records that in the church John Green taught the arts of memorial and restoration carving and lettercutting. John and his partner, Pam, were invited along to the church to witness the unveiling of the plaque in June by The Orton Trust\'s President, Sir Ian Isham. Members of the committee were also present with some of John\'s students.
