PINNACLES AT TEMPLE GUITING
The prince of Wales, patron of the Dry Stone Walling Association, has presented the DSWA\'s top Pinnacle Awards for excellence in the garden walling at The Manor at Temple Guiting, Gloucestershire. The project has more than 350m of both free standing and retaining walls in the local limestones with a variety of built-in features such as steps, arches and curves. The Award trophies were made from Burlington\'s Cumbrian slate by Coniston Stonecraft. The recipients, pictured above (left to right), are: garden designer Jinny Blom, consultant architect Ptolemy Dean, owner of the property Steven Collins and waller Gilbert Stirling Lee, who is also pictured receiving his award from Prince Charles. When Gilbert Stirling Lee and Richard Podd formed Elephant Dry Stone Wallers in 1986 they were known as the \'walling kiddies\' because they were then the only known wallers under retirement age. It is a trubute to the success of the DSWA that there are now hundreds of dry stone wallers under retirement age.
