Portland stoneworking hits Countryfile

The BBC television programme Countryfile visited Portland in Dorset last week to record some stone working for the broadcast being aired on Sunday 23 February.

Hannah Sofaer of the Portland Sculpture Trust spent two days working with the programme makers to help them find locations and people working with stone to film.

According to Paul Crabtree of the Trust it was wet and cold when Hannah was interviewed but apparently rain doesn’t show up on film!

The following day was better with the sun shining. The team filmed Ralph Stone splitting the stone and Phil Docherty carving with presenter Julia Bradbury. Phil sold a piece of his work to the crew and was commissioned by Countryfile to produce a carving for the programme, so it was great experience for him.

One to look out for!
