Quarrymen turn back the clock for BBC

Quarrymen with Hanson Bath & Portland Stone became television extras for a day when the BBC visited the isle of Portland, Dorset, for a programme they were making about Sir Christopher Wren.

Wren, of course, famously rebuilt London after the Great Fire of 1666 using copious amounts of Portland limestone, starting an architectural trend that stretches down to the present day.

The hour-long programme, narrated by Michael Buerk, was filmed at Hanson\'s Coombefield Quarry where quarrymen Amos Rowley, Paul Chamberlain and Curtis Gould dressed in period costume and used 17th century tools to show quarrying methods of the time.

The programme will be screened by the BBC in the spring.
